About The Author

John M. Gilles grew up with Castle football as a young fan in the early 1980s. He was one of the kids that hung on the stadium rails, played on the hill, and watched Castle become one of the elite football programs in Southern Indiana. He has been associated with the program ever since his two older brothers Gary and Mark played for the Knights from 1980-1985. As a young fan, Gilles remembers the profound effect that Castle football had on him. From his brothers' teammates to the coaching staff, Gilles was in awe of "Knight-Time in Paradise."

Like his brothers, John played for the legendary head coach, John Lidy. Gilles was a DB/WR/RB for the Knights from 1989-1992, three-year letter winner, and the Defensive Player-of-the-Year in 1992. Today he is known as Coach Gilles and has been part of the Castle football coaching staff since 2002. Gilles has been employed as a teacher by the Warrick County School Corporation since 1998.
