Writing a Press Release For Your Book

A guide for writing a proper document to notify the media about your book.

Writing A Press Release
A press release is an important ingredient to any marketing plan. When properly prepared, a press release informs the media of your book which may result in media coverage in newspapers, magazines, radio interviews, etc.

You may submit your press release to the news media by email or postal service. It is important to direct your release to the appropriate person and never to a department. Improperly addressed releases will more than likely be discarded. The Internet News Bureau has an email press release service with a database of thousands of media sources. For more information on this service visit http://www.internetnewsbureau.com. Below is a sample press release to help get you started.

Don’t be afraid to make bold claims about your book as long as you can back them up.)

Remember, your press release is not an ad to sell your book, but instead, an information package to generate interest in the media.

Your release should not exceed 500 words in length.

Avoid excessive use of adjectives and stick to ordinary language.
